Kathy Thornton is Associate Dean in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia. Thornton took four trips aboard the space shuttle, and has been in Charlottesville since 1996. She was a guest on the July 7 edition of WINA’s “Charlottesville–Right Now!” with Coy Barefoot. Topics include how she became an astronaut, how to encourage kids to study math and science, and what her first flight was like in 1989.
Amanda Walters is a social statistician at the Weldon Cooper Center’s Demographic and Workforce Section at the University of Virginia, an an alumnna of UVa. She joins Coy Barefoot on WINA’s “Charlottesville–Right Now!” to talk about her article in the Center’s new publication Stat Chat which examines the demographics of American veterans.
Qian Cai is the director of the Demographics and Workforce unit at the Weldon-Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia. She joined Coy Barefoot on the February 6 edition of WINA’s “Charlottesville–Right Now!” to discuss the Center’s recent study of Virginia’s Hispanic population.
“Virginia’s Hispanic population tripled from 150,000 in 1990 to more than 460,000 in 2006,” Cai said.
Second-year U.Va law student Karin Agness is the founder of the Network for Englightened Women, an organization that claims to be “the nation’s premier club for conservative university women.” Agness talks about the alternative perspective provided by NEW, and offers her perspective on the Hillary Clinton campaign.
