This week’s edition of the Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call with Rick Moore brought out the kid in every listener, with two staff members from the Virginia Discovery Museum in the studio. Peppy Linden, Executive Director of the museum, and Margie Rein, volunteer coordinator, talk about what goes on at their museum on the East end of the Downtown Mall. How do they create exhibits designed for very young children? And how has their relatively small museum managed to rank among the top 50 children’s museums in the country?
The guests also talk about the importance of volunteers to the museum. About 120 volunteers help out throughout the year, including dozens of high school students in their summer program. Volunteers greet visitors, answer questions, set up exhibits, and even play with the kids. Interested in volunteering for 2-3 hours a week? Contact Margie Rein, or visit the museum’s volunteer page.
The Virginia Discovery Museum is open every day except Mondays and major holidays.
