Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle

On the September 21st edition of WNRN’s Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call, Rick Moore welcomes Beth Golden of Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle. The LVCA provides one-on-one, confidential tutoring in basic literacy and English as a second language to adults living or working in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. A look at CASA: Court Appointed Special Advocates

This is the logo for CASA - and the first caption ever on the Charlottesville Podcasting Network!

Each year in the Charlottesville / Albemarle region, hundreds of children are victims of violence, sexual abuse and severe neglect. Piedmont CASA is an organization that trains Court Appointed Special Advocates, who work one-on-one with abused and endangered children to assist the courts in determining the best environment to ensure each child’s safety and well-being. On the July 20 edition of WNRN’s Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call, Rick speaks with CASA Advancement Director Phoebe Frosch and CASA volunteer Patty Thomas Cato.

Smart Beginnings: The Importance of Early Education

Smart Beginnings is a program in Central Virginia (1 of 4 in the state) sponsored by the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation, aimed at increasing the quality and quantity of education provided to pre-K children. Miriam Rushfinn, Kathy Flanders, and Shaele Wood join host Rick Moore in the studio this week to talk about Smart Beginnings, and the importance of quality education early in life. Why is it important to educate children before Kindergarten? Who bears the cost? How can we ensure the quality of the curriculum?
