Rick Moore (host) talks with Waldo Jacquith (runs RichmondSunlight.com) about the Virginia’s general assembly. RichmondSunlight.com is a site where people can see bills proposed by senators in the Virginia general assembly sessions. The site puts bills into categories and lets you see the status of them.
On the March 15 Wake-Up Call, Rick talks with Albemarle Board of Supervisors members Ann Mallek and Dave Slutzky. Issues discussed include transportation, state funding, and taxes.
On the October 19th edition of the Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call on WNRN, Virginia Policy Director, Oscar Ramirez, a representative of Obama Campaign, joins host Rick Moore to discuss politics. Sean Kenney, a former communication director from the Republican Party joined the later half of the show to represent the McCain Campaign. Some of the topics touched upon were: Were the early economic warnings overlooked? What part of the problem did regulation play in the current crisis? On the March 9th edition of the Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call on WNRN, two representatives from Appalachian Voices join host Rick Moore to talk about Dominion Virginia’s plans to build a new coal power plant in Southwestern Virginia. Tom Cormons is the director of the Charlottesville offices for Appalachian Voices, and Mike McCoy is a field organizer from Richmond - they discuss the so-called “green” power plant: why it’s important to Dominion Virginia, what makes it “green,” and what it could have on the area.
Callers chime in with their questions about the plant: How many jobs will this provide? Why has this plant been getting so much media attention? What are the pros and cons? Find out all about the proposed power plant, as well as learn about some of the other environmental issues Appalachian Voices deals with - only on the Wake-Up Call!

For more information, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has posted links to Dominion’s application for a permit that will explain the company’s attempts to limit air pollution from the facility, including mitigation plans. The facility is known as the Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center, and the engineering analysis is halfway down the page.
DEQ is taking public comment until March 12.
It’s two days ’til the primary polls open in Virginia and on the February 10th edition of the Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call, host Rick Moore explores this years’ presidential race. Joined by Pete Ronayne and Jim Sofka, both currently professors at the Federal Executive Institute with politcal backgrounds, they discuss last week’s Super Tuesday and what it meant (or didn’t mean) for the candidates. Ronayne and Sofka also talk about Tuesday’s Potomac primary - the focus on the Democratic over the Republican candidates, whether it will decide the Democratic presidential nominee, and the recent emergence of Virginia as a battleground state.
Plus, the guests explain the primary process as a whole: how it works, the differences between the Democratic and Republican Races, and the importance of so-called “Super Delegates.” Callers also ask their own questions about the race.

This week on the Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call, House of Delegates Representative David Toscano joins host Bob Gibson to talk Virginia politics. From his own uncontested race, to that of Albemarle District Attourney and Sheriff, Toscano discusses the progress of each race in the area, and how voters are reacting to each candidate’s campaigning. He also goes over some of the issues these elections could be decided on, such as illegal immigration and regional growth.
Toscano dives into the national race near the end of the program, going over the Democratic presidential candidate. With Barack Obama coming to Charlottesville next week, and <a href=”http://www.cvillepodcast.com/2007/09/24/john-grisham-interviews-hillary-clinton-at-the-paramount/” target=”_blank”>Hillary Clinton having already appeared</a>, who does Virginia want?
On this week’s edition of the Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call, UVa’s Pete Ronayne of the Federal Executive Institute stops by the studio to talk politics with host Rick Moore. They discuss the major Virginia races coming up in the 2008 election, including the popularity of Charlottesville as a Democratic presidential campaign stop, and Mark Warner’s political future. With John Warner coming out of the Governor’s Mansion, could the “other Warner” be on his way back to it? What about Jim Gilmore? Tom Davis? Also, how has Virginia’s political climate been changing - what does it mean to be a “purple state”?
With presidential nomination conventions coming up in the next few months, Ronayne and Gibson talk about what’s important to candidates who still need to be chosen by their party, and how the game will change once official party nominations have been made early next year.
Bob Gibson, a political reporter for the Daily Progress, was also on hand in the studio to comment on the discussion.
